SAM 94 Lectures -- Mitch Williams
The Society of American Magicians #94
is proud to be the place for magic lectures in the
San Francisco Bay Area...
Mitch Williams lectured for our club in July of 1997.
We weren't able to meet at our regular meeting place, but were very
fortunate to be able to meet in a lecture room at Stanford University.
Here are some pictures before the lecture as the room
was filling up. We usually get 50-70 people for a lecture drawing people
from around the Bay Area. Some people drove 100 miles for this lecture.
Here's the announcement that we ran prior to Mitch's lecture:
Mitch comes from Illinois to the Bay Area after performing and lecturing at the Magic Castle. He's performing one week in the Parlour and another week in the Palace. His lecture in the Bay Area is the day after he lectures at the Magic Castle! Mitch will share his experiences as a performer on how to create your own magic, your own character, your own routines. This lecture will use plenty of sleights and routines as examples as Mitch discusses the many aspects of:
Magic as an art form
Mitch views magic as a self-expressive art form where it is important for you, the magician, to find your character and motivation to give your magic purpose. He will teach how to integrate sleights and effects with motivation; the effective use of relaxation; creating focus and direction; using contrasts to create interest and impact; creating themes, plotlines, and moods; integrating props, costumes, lighting, etc. with your character; the fundamentals of balanced movement in performing magic; and much more.
Mitch has performed at many venues in the U.S., Japan, Spain, and on cruise ships. He has performed in the It's Magic Show, FISM competition, Tannen's Jubilee, IBM Gold Medal Show, the NY Magic Symposium, the Desert Magic Seminar, and many others.
